Currently the world’s tallest tower, The Burj Khalifa, stands at 828 metres but now it looks like it will have some competition in the form of The Tower, said to be 100 metres taller when complete.

The new development was designed by, Spanish born, Santiago Calatrava Valls. His work is featured all around the world, with his creations including The World Trade Centre’s Transportation Hub in New York, Rio de Janeiro’s Museum of Tomorrow as well as the Turning Torso in Malmö in Sweden.

The designs for The Tower were influenced by the natural contours of the lily and Dubai’s Islamic culture. The Tower will feature beautiful cables that look almost like jewellery.

The Tower is estimated to cost around Dh3.65 billion, according to the developer Emaar Properties, with construction set to start in July 2016. The mega structure will be built in Dubai Creek Harbour in Ras al Khor and will be the centrepiece of a six-square-kilometre master development.

The Tower will feature multi observation decks and leisure options overlooking the stunning Dubai city. The Tower will be crowned by The Pinnacle Room and will open to grand views of the sky. Unlike the Burj Khalifa, The Tower will not be host to any residences or offices, although will feature a boutique hotel, a few floors of gardens, restaurants and function halls.

With Dubai preparing to host Expo 2020 The Tower will be the place to see during the Expo.

Emaar Properties has released a video of how the development is set to look like.
