There are plenty of public transport options to get you to your destination in Dubai, from the Dubai Metro to the Dubai Tram and Bus Systems.
It is useful to understand the layout of the city, and know how to navigate the public transport network. Many of the drivers and station attendants will speak a limited amount of English, so it can help to plan ahead.
The Dubai Metro runs driverless trains on a dilly automated metro rail network throughout Dubai. Currently the Red and Green line are both operational, with three further lines planned.
The Dubai Metro is made up of 47 metro station, with 9 of them underground and 2 transfer stations (Union Square and Khalid Bin Waled).
The Metro is open throughout the week. Daily operating hours are listed below:

Each metro train can accommodate 643 passengers both seating and standing. You will find that the trains are split into 3 different classes: Gold (VIP) class (1 car), Women and Children (1 Car) and Silver Class (3 cars).
You can find a metro station around ever 1.5km.
To travel on the Dubai Metro you will need to purchase a travel card, there are 4 different cards to choose from, so you need to know exactly which one to get.
The four card types are as follows: Red ticket, Blue card, Silver card and Gold card. If you are only going to be using the Dubai Metro for a few days then a Red ticket is the best option. This is a paper ticket that can be purchased for AED 2 and is valid for 90 days. This ticket is rechargeable for use on up to a maximum of 10 journeys.
The Dubai Bus System is just as reliable as the Metro, although the routes will continue to change as more of the metro stops become operational. You will find feeder bus lines with route maps at each of the metro stations. Customer service personnel are available at 7 of the bus stations.

Not only can you use your Travel cards on the metro, they are also available to use on the bus system too. To get off the bus you can push the stop button and “tag” your card when you exit the bus.
The Dubai tram opened in November 2014, with 11 out of the 19 planned stations now open. The tram runs for 19 hours a day, opening between 6:30am and 1:30am from Saturday to Thursday and from 9am to 1:30am on Fridays.
The tram services runs a total of 14.5 kilometres along Al Sufouh Road, from Dubai Marina to the Burj Al Arab and the Mall of the Emirates.
